Inspiration of the Day: Stephen Eastwood

I’ve previously researched Stephen Eastwood for his fashion photography and unfortunately there’s not a lot of information on him. I don’t know where he’s studied, what his personal influences are or what his life was like, but what I do know, is that he creates some mind blowing art in the form of beauty shots. Eastwood does do fashion photography, and it is good, but I think he is best at capturing colour, shadow and beauty in and on the face. His photography is perfect for beauty campaigns and makeup adverts, because although the model is shot perfectly, the makeup or object always stands out from the picture.
He also captures the emotion in the models eyes in a lot of his photography which makes for a stunning and eye catching shot. This is obviously helped by the model themselves, but unless you know how to shoot it, you’re going to get a pretty average picture.
I myself think Eastwood’s photography is quite inspiring, because there is a lot of glamour and mystique. My favourite shot is to the right; the gold on her face compliments her skin tone, so for a start he’s chosen the right model, and the makeup looks as if it blends straight into her skin. These gold and bronze shades contrast with the stunning blue in the model’s eyes, which, looking straight at the camera, draw you in. I love how the right side (looking at the picture) of her face blends into the black background, yet the left side is crisp; its as if she’s emerging from nothing.

I like that he shoots a wide range of models with different scenes/scenarios/ideas in each. You can sit and look at his photography on Eastwood’s website and continually be drawn to a new inspirational and thought provoking photo every minute.
